Hello There!

I'm Trista. The one woman show behind Weed Killer.

First, what the heck kinda name is Weed Killer? The name comes from my grandpa whom I am named after, my middle name is Dale. He was the head of weed control in the department of agriculture in a little town in Kansas, where I grew up. My family lived across the street from my grandparents for most of my childhood, and my grandpa and I were buds.

A few years ago, and many years after he had passed, we were moving my grandma to a different home and came across all of his patches. And I remember my aunt saying, "Trista, you should have these, you were named after him, and you're the only one here that sews." They were the patches you would imagine a grandpa would have: a Dale name patch (classic), Nemaha County CB Club, Department of Ag, something with a bald eagle and the American flag... Then there was this small red patch, and on it, woven in plain, white, capital letters, the words WEED KILLER.

So that is where it comes from. It's tough, it kinda makes no sense as a brand name for the softest goods imaginable, and I love that, but most of all it has a special meaning to me.

And what about me? Besides sewing and pattern making, I teach yoga, I climb, and a I coach youth climbing. Teaching, movement, and playfulness is at the core of my being, and it informs the things I design. The two most important things when designing for me are: does it have pockets that can actually fit stuff, and does it go with a pair of barefoot shoes? Once these are satisfied, I hope to design patterns that are approachable and simple enough so that you can make them your own, and let your own creativity shine. Bonus points if some kind of patchwork is involved.

Ok that's me. :)
